The tartan was designed by Sir Richard W Griffiths, Colonel of the 4th Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers in 1908 and was it was used to make the pipers and plaids. It was then adopted by the family of Earl Haig as the latter was also a Colonel of the battalion, and as it was referred to by Haig Check. The Haig Check Tartan is a design of light blue, green, orange-red as well as yellow stripes.
