It is believed that the Lauder was made possibly by Sir Thomas Dick Lauder who was an ardent friend to The Sobieski brothers. However, the Gunn is almost identical and was first recorded in 1831. It's likely that the Sobieskis modified it a bit to create the Lauder to honor the friend of theirs, Sir Dick. The woven sample from Clans Originaux is named 'Gunn or Lauder'. It is the Gunn tartan that black bands have identical in width to the blue. Likewise, the sett is identical. The Color of Lauder Tartan is green-black, blue, and red.
