The name is found prior to the 12th century, in charters that mention Livingston. The name Livingston originates from the land located in West Lothian thought to have been named after Living, a Saxon named Living. Sir William Livingston witnessed a charter of the Earl of Lennox in 1270. Sir William's land was acquired by the estate from Callendar by David II, in 1347. In 1347, the Livingstones from Westquarter, Bonton, and Dunipace Kinnaird come off the calendar Livingstones.
