Argyllshire is the ancestral home of this clan. The nickname Malcolm refers to the English equivalent to that of Gaelic Callum. The land of Craignish were granted to Reginald MacCallum of Corbarron in 1414, along and the Constableship over Craignish and the Castles of Lochaffy and Craignish. In the 17th century, Corbarron was given to Zachary MacCallum of Poltalloch. The Poltalloch family was the owners of their land before 1562. Dugald MacCallum of Poltalloch, who was the successor to the estate from 1779 onwards, was believed to be the first person to take the surname Malcolm. The MacCallum tartan colors are navy blue, black, forest green, and pale blue.
