Clan Armstrong is an armigerous clan. This means that the clan's family name or even the name is registered in the Court of the Lord Lyon. This Border clan was in Liddesdale in 1376, and then extended their influence and power to Annandale. The war-like chiefs of the clan and their followers engaged in battle on both sides the Border and their strength was so powerful that they were able to overthrow their authority as their Scottish King. In 1530, King James V, by stratagem was able to capture and execute the Armstrong chief. Armstrong Tartan is appropriate for any occasion or event. The tartan is typically composed of Acrylic Wool fabric and is characterized by the colors of navy and green which is striped with strong red lines, and thin black lines which lightens the tartan and provide it with more weight.
