Historical Context
The MacIver Clan's history is a fascinating one, filled with tales of strength, loyalty, and perseverance. The clan originated in Argyllshire in the 13th century when Iver Crom owned some lands and conquered the lands of Cowal for King Alexander II. In 1292, they inherited properties that solidified their standing, and by 1500, Iver MacIver of Lergachonzie became the clan's chief. Over the years, the clan faced numerous challenges, including forfeitures, rebellion, and changes in name and arms. A notable event in their history was their support of Archibald, 9th Earl of Argyll, during the rebellion of 1685, which unfortunately led to the forfeiture of their lands. However, following the Revolution of 1688, Duncan, the son of Iver, had the estates restored under the condition they adopt the name and bear the arms of Campbell. The clan's resilience is evident, as they remained significant figures throughout Scottish history, including in the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745. Today, this Tartan serves as a symbol of the clan's enduring legacy and unwavering spirit.
