The clan's origins can be traced back to the 13th century when the MacKintoshes were loyal supporters of the Comyns, who were one of the most powerful families in Scotland at that time. However, when the Comyns fell from power in the 14th century, the MacKintoshes became supporters of the Scottish crown and played a key role in the Wars of Scottish Independence. The MacKintoshes were a powerful clan in their own right, and their lands in the Scottish Highlands were highly prized. They were fierce warriors and were renowned for their bravery on the battlefield. Hailing from the breathtaking region around Inverness, Clan MacKintosh boasts a rich and fascinating history. The MacKintosh clan traces its origins back to the illustrious Shaw MacDuff, who was the son of the legendary Duncan MacDuff, Earl of Fife in medieval times. It was Shaw MacDuff who first assumed the mantle of MacKintosh chief, and he went on to play a key role in Scottish history.
