The Kinnaird Tartan is closely associated with Clan Kinnaird, a distinguished Scottish clan that originated from Kinnaird Castle in Angus, Scotland. This lineage dates back to the 12th century, starting with the Norman nobleman Freskin, who was granted lands by King David I. The clan's first recorded member, Radulphus Ruffus, received a charter for the land in 1180. The name 'Kinnaird' comes from "Cynhard," meaning "high point of the fort." Renowned for their bravery and military achievements, the Kinnairds played a pivotal role in Scottish history, providing soldiers, officers, and generals. The clan also contributed notable judges, clergymen, and politicians to Scottish society.
