The Gows inhabited mainly the area around Inverness as well as Perth. In Perth, in the Perthshire city of Inver close to Dunkeld Inver, the birthplace of Neil Gow in 1727, one of the most well-known men in the world. He was able to obtain the tartan of his unique, different from the tartan of his family, due in part because of the paintings depicting Sir Henry Raeburn. The Gow Hunting Weathered Tartan colors are light brown, black, and Grey along with yellow, red, and electric blue stripes.
