Kildare was first established as an independent county in 1297. It was given its present boundaries in 1832, following changes to eliminate a variety of exclaves and enclaves. One of the major Norman families that settled in Kildare the Fitzgeralds or Geraldines played a significant role in the development of the county as well as the overall country. In the 16th century, the Tudors strengthened their power within Co. Kildare, while the Lord Protector, Oliver Cromwell, seized the land and began planting more plantations in 1649 and 1653. Kildare County Tartan fabric by the meter is made from 100% pure new wool and proudly woven in Scotland. The color of this tartan includes Blue, Parrot, and Red.
