Purchasing a kilt is a meaningful investment, often the foundation of a timeless outfit that can be enhanced over the years. It’s a sustainable wardrobe piece, rich in cultural significance, that can be cherished and passed down through generations, preserving family history, heritage, and memories of special celebrations. Originating as the Great Kilt, or Feileadh Mòr in Gaelic, in the 1600s, it served as a practical, full-length garment. The top portion could be draped over the shoulder or used as a hood, offering versatility against the unpredictable Highland weather. Crafted from heavy wool, it provided warmth, dried quickly, and allowed freedom of movement, whether for hunting or combat. The modern kilt evolved from the belted plaid, known as Breacan an Fhéilidh in Gaelic, gaining prominence in the late 17th century, particularly after its adoption as the military uniform of the Highland Regiment in the British Army.
