Modern MacAlpine Heavy-weight Tartan. The Clan Alpine is often referred to as "Siol Ailpein", which was the name used to describe several clans that claimed Royal descent. This comprised those of the MacGregors, MacNabs, Grants, and MacQuarrie's. King Alpine was executed following the defeat of the Picts in 834, was believed to be the ancestral ancestor of the MacAlpine clans. In reality, the name Alpine is an old name in Scottish history. The story of the family is not clear, however, the name was first documented as early as 1260 Perthshire. In 1405, Mordac MacKalpy was granted permission from the King of England to go to the schools in Oxford as well as Cambridge. The earliest Gaelic poems mention St Patrick in the form of Padruig MacAlpine. Macalpine Muted Tartan is dark green, black, white, and yellow. Modern colors are the primary tartan for the entire family.
