Birrell has a surname that was discovered in Glendale East Borders in 1387. Andrew Birrell is a burgess of Berwick 1449. The tartan is featured in the 1819 Key Pattern Books of Wilson of Bannockburn however it is mentioned in a 1773 letter. Birrell Tartan is typically composed of Acrylic Wool fabric and features lighter maroon, brown blue, and purple colors. It also has white lines, which reduce the weight of the tartan and provide it with more balance.
