Historical Significance
The Crawford tartan has its roots in the Scottish barony of Crawford in Lanarkshire. The Crawford family was said to have originated in this area, where the Clyde River's sandy gravel formed a shallow firm bottom, and crows wheeled in the empty air over the heather that stretched toward the mountains. The family's name became synonymous with the region, eventually acquiring the barony of Crawford. Known for their support of William Wallace during the Scottish Wars of Independence, notable figures such as Sir Thomas Craufurd of Jordanhill even joined Lord Darnley's household after marrying Mary, Queen of Scots. The clan's motto, "Tutum te robore reddam" (I will give you safety by strength), along with their crest of a stag's head with a cross crosslet fitch'e, embodies their values of strength and protection. First recorded in the "Vestiarium Scoticum" by the Sobieski brothers in 1842, the Crawford tartan represents a rich heritage worth celebrating.
Color Scheme & Pattern
The Crawford tartan is a stunning display of pink, green, and white, capturing the essence of the Scottish landscape. The pink base represents the heather that blankets the Scottish hillsides, while the green stripes symbolizes the moss growing on the rocky cliffs. The white stripes signifies the snow that covers the Scottish Highlands in winter. The tartan features bold lines and intricate patterns that add a touch of sophistication to any outfit. Made from 100% acrylic wool, the tartan ensures durability and comfort for wearers.
